How to make THE BEST ginger lemon honey drink EVER!

Take it up to the next level!

If you love this highly detoxing and soothing drink just like us, it’s a must read 😉

Ginger Lemon Honey Infusion is just one of the most soothing and calming combo you can find, and is power-packed with some incredible health and body care benefits.

It brings instant relief from nausea and indigestion, boosts your immune system, heals colds and flus and it also helps with weight loss. Sweet, spicy and warm, what a treat to have at any time of the day!

At Andara Stars we like to have it early morning as a detoxing drink before meditation or yoga practice to start the day and then also before bed to calm, relax and help digestion.

This recipe is inspired right from THE BEST chai place in Rishikesh, Northern India up on the Himalayas. If you have been there you may know it already, it’s lovely tiny cafe with gorgeous views of the Ganga called “The Office”.

Now I have been a lover and maker of this drink for years, but when I had my first sip of this Ginger Lemon Honey tea version, I realized that was a totally different level and taste and I don’t think I can ever go back to how I used to make it in the past anymore!

Try it yourself, and let me know what you think!

To start, you’ll need:

– 2 cups filtered water

– 1 bunch of fresh organic ginger

– half a lemon

– a couple teaspoons raw honey (to taste)

optional:

– a couple fresh sage leaves

– a few mint leaves

Method:

Cut a thin slice of the half lemon, and juice the rest into a big mug.

Bring to boil the water, and in the meantime take about 2 inches of ginger and cut it off the mother root. Run the piece under water to take away any dust or soil it may have still on top. Now, here’s comes that special secret that makes all the difference; instead of finely chopping the ginger, just place the piece in a mortar and CRUSH IT!

You can see how this releases some of the ginger’s juices ; also keeping the skin gives it more taste and it just feels fresher and with a more authentic aroma. Place the smudged/crushed ginger into the boiling water and leave it there for 5 to 10 minutes at least on a low flame.

Then, pour the drink into the cup with the lemon juice already in and add one or 2 tablespoons of raw honey, to taste. Some like it more sweet, some more spicy!

As an extra add on, you can also infuse it with a few leaves of sage or mint, depending on how you feel. Sage has a warm and dusky flavour, a little bitter but it’s very beneficial as a headache relief, relaxes and has an antiseptic effect in the stomach. I actually love the taste! I like to add a leaf or 2 of fresh sage to my tea before bed.

Otherwise, if you feel like you need a lift and you’re feeling tired or sluggish, mint is a great stimulant and the smell alone activates and boosts your energy. It is also great for having a fresh breath all day. I like to add mint in the morning to my Ginger Lemon drink to help me jumpstart the day!
